For the second consecutive year George C. Beechler reached
the final of the Senior Amateur Championship and met defeat.
Dexter H. Daniels, of Winter Haven, Fla., defeated Beechler,
1 up, at the Tucson National Golf Club, Tucson, Ariz. Robert
B. Kiersky, of Delray Beach, Fla., the defending Champion,
lost in the third round to Merrill L. Carlsmith, the Champion
in 1962 and 1963.
Two former Amateur Champions played: Jack Westland, the
1952 Amateur Champion from Pebble Beach, Calif., lost in the
first round to Curtis Person, Sr., of Memphis, and Richard
D. Chapman, of Oyster Harbors, Mass., was defeated in the
third round by David Goldman, Sr., of Dallas. Person was medalist
with 143.
