Robert B. Kiersky, 57, of Oakmont, Pa., won the 1965 Championship
at the Fox Chapel Golf Club, Pittsburgh, by defeating George
C. Beechler, Prineville, Ore., on the 19th hole. On the extra
hole, 405 yards long, Kiersky two-putted for his par, but
Beechley was short with his second and took three to get down.
Two former Champions lost in the semi-final round.
Merrill L. Carlsmith, winner in 1962 and 1963, lost to Beechier;
William D. Higgins, San Francisco, the 1964 Champion, was
ousted by Kiersky. Curtis Person, Sr., of. Memphis, Tenn.,
won the medal with 149. |
