Lee Wins The 2007 USGA Senior Amateur Championship

Andover, Kan. – Stan Lee, 55, of Heber Springs, Ark., became the youngest USGA Senior Amateur winner in history with his 4-and-3 victory over Sam Farlow, 60, of Birmingham, Ala., Thursday at the 2007 championship at the par-71, 6,502-yard Flint Hills National Golf Club.

At 55 years and five days, Lee surpassed the previous record of 55 years, three months and 18 days set by Bill Bosshard in 1991.

“I cannot believe it,” said Lee. “It is a dream come true. I’m still kind of pinching myself to see if this is real or not. What an honor to win a USGA event. I’m just tickled to death.”

Andover, Kan. – During the trophy presentation following the championship match at Flint Hills National Golf Club Thursday, 2007 USGA Senior Amateur champion Stan Lee was quick to acknowledge his opponent.

“I’m sorry that he lost,” said Lee. “One of us had to and I hate that it was him.”

“Me too,” Farlow chimed in.

That’s the way it went all day between the two Southern golfers, who started their friendly chatter before the round started and kept it up for the next three hours.
