Curtis Person, Sr.
Curtis Person, Sr., 58, of Memphis, Tenn., barely qualified
for match play, then won the Championship. He defeated Ben
Goodes, 55, of Reidsville, Tenn., 2 and 1, in the final.
Person escaped a sudden-death playoff for a qualifying position
by one stroke. He won his first match in 20 holes, and his
next three by 1 up.
Person was 1 down after 13 holes against Goodes, won the
14th with a birdie, and the 15th and 17th with pars. John
Tullio, Aurora, Ohio, was qualifying medalist with 146. The
entry of 674 set a record. |
